A Biography
Prosecutor, bird expert and senior criminal investigator with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds from 1974 to 1990, with subsequent experience as defence expert witness and advisor. Criminal court experience England, Scotland and Wales.
Experienced professional criminal investigator and bird expert specialising in World, European and UK bird-related issues, including trade in both wild and captive birds, their eggs, parts or derivatives. Fellow, Honorary Life Member and former Principal of the Institute of Professional Investigators.

Wide range of environmental and commercial bird survey experience involving land and seabird
populations. Overseas birding and environmental
experience includes North and Central America; East,
West and North Africa; Middle East; Southeast Asia;
Australia and much of Europe. An experienced and
travelled bird ringer (bander).
Previous working experience within the world bird trade and a former member of the Bird of Prey World Working Group.
Former editor of the annual ‘Isles of Scilly Bird Report’ and a former Council Member of Devon Bird Watching and Preservation Society.
Published works include the books ‘Bird Detective’ and ‘The Birds of the Isles of Scilly’.
Former full-time operational Station Officer with the London Fire Brigade - Graduate Diploma of the Institute of Fire Engineers.
UK bird list 400+ species.
European mainland - Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Spain & Gibraltar, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, former Yugoslavia, Greece – 540 species.
USA (New England, California and Florida) & Mexico – 470 species.
